Hello my fellow SwiftUI learners,
Do you ever get the feeling that you sometimes want to much? That you thought to highly of yourself and didn’t achieve what you wanted to. Well if you ever do, then I think you should put that thought to the side. Really, it’s no big deal. I realize that this post comes out a bit late since we are already in February but hey, again, its not a big deal.
Anyhow, did you have any goals for 2024? I know I did and I failed to deliver on almost all of them. Not that they werent unachievable, it just so happened that a few weeks in, I didn’t feel it anymore. I just felt like, nah this won’t do. Why should I try and achieve these goals when my mind is somewhere else? Why should I be miserable just to please some fictional goals I set for myself. So I decided to abandon almost all my goals for 2024 and just go with the flow.
For 2025 thoguh, I feel that I have more motivation. Therefore I have decided to up my game and see how far it can take me. But first, lets go through the goals I set for 2024 and see how I did.
You can read all about my goals for 2024 here: Welcome to 2024 at Learning SwiftUI
Funny thing reading this post, I said I would commit 100% to them. Well that didn’t last long did it? Here are the goals I set for 2024:
I mean, not that bad actually. I kind of like the goals I set, manageable for someone that still has a 9-5 job. Yet I failed miserably to deliver on them.
Lets go through them one by one.
Reach 6k followers on Twitter - Fail
This could have been achieved but I honestly don’t find X as useful as Twitter was. It is to much noise now and it is hard to discuss problems you encounter when coding SwiftUI as so many good people have left the platform or you do not break through the noise anymore. I started the year with 3514 followers and ended it 4107. This goal will not follow to 2025 goals as the amount of followers you have on X is not important.
50 cardio sessions - Fail
This is also an easy goal and I started the year out just great with 7 running sessions during January. Which is good as it can get really cold during winter in Sweden. But then motivation was lost and we had a newborn during the summer. But I managed to get a total of 24 running sessions during 2024 so almost half way there.
50 gym sessions - Fail
I got my gym card on December 23 - 2024, so it was hard to manage this goal. I at least managed 3 sessions before 2024 ended so that was at least something. Motivation is back so during 2025 I will make it.
Min 1 stretch exercise a day - Fail
This felt like a good goal to have as I am getting closer to 40. But haha I have never been stretching before and as the old saying goes. It is hard to teach an old dog to sit. I really don’t like stretching so this was doomed from the begining.
Spanish 365 day streak on Duolingo - Success
Boom! Actually it was 366 days during 2024 so this one I managed! Which feels good as I feel my Spanish has improved substantially. I will keep this goal for 2025 to continue my streak but I will also add that I most be able to pass all monthly challenges during 2025.
Weigh 84kg at years end - Fail
Weighed in at 89kg on December 31 so 5 kg away from target. Started 2024 on 94kg so I am still glad that I managed to loose 5kg without even trying. Gonna go for 84kg during 2025. Can’t go any lower as I will disappear then :)
Post once a week on Learning SwiftUI - Fail
This started out good, I made 4 post every week during January 2024 but the my motivation faded. For 2025 I will post when I feel like it instead.
Grow Learning SwiftUI to 1k subs - Fail
Hard to grow a newsletter to 1k subs when you don’t do any posting haha.
Save 1000SEK a month on Nordnet - Success
Managed to save this amount every month, not a hard goal though but since we have been on parental leave for since June 2024 this was the only reasonable goal to set when it comes to saving.
Read 12 books - Success
Managed to read exactly 12 books during 2024. The best book I read was probably the psychology of money by Morgan House.
Release 3 apps on the App Store - Fail
Not even close I didn’t even do any coding during the year, just didn’t feel like it. Now I picked it up again and I am getting closer to my first app release actually. Fingers crossed!
Make first dollar on the App Store - Fail
Hard to make any money in the App Store if you don’t release any apps.
Get new job with higher salary - Success
Managed to find a better job and got a 20% salary increase, not too bad.
Go through a YT tutorial on SwiftUI once a week - Fail
Haha not even close on this one.
So in total I managed to achieved 4 out 14 of my goals for 2024. Maybe I set up too many goals but to be honest, they were all pretty achievable. I just lacked motivation for this during the year as I focused on my family instead. So I won at life at least.
So if you ended up like me, setting a lot of goals that you didn’t do. Don’t feel bad about it, there is always a new chance to tweak your goals and improve.
For 2025 I will have some more “reasonable” goals, in some way at least. I will share them in my next post.
All I can say is that I started out strong so 2025 can bring it!

Very fun and relatable article.
